The right words to get the message across

Words make the message. If you want to get a message across it is important to carefully choose the right words. Whether you need to convince your boss, an employee, a customer or your partner at home, the right words can make or break the message.

This movie illustrates the impact of using the right words to create more impact.

Made to stick
In their best selling management novel "Made to stick", Dan & Chip Heat give 6 simple tricks to improve your message. These "S.U.C.C.E.S." tricks work especially well for longer messages like speeches, trainings, ...
  1. Simple : keep it simple, don't overload your message with details or difficult words
  2. Unexpected : surprise your audience. The surprise will keep them awake
  3. Concrete : be as concrete as possible. This will help the audience to get a clearer picture of what you are talking about.
  4. Credible : honesty contributes to your credibility. What are your credentials ?
  5. Emotional : Emotion gives messages a soul.
  6. Stories : use anecdotes to spice up your story.
My advise to you :
  • Use positive words
  • Don't use more words than needed
  • Be clear (don't leave any room for interpretation)
  • If possible, wait one day before you ship it and read it again before you send it
  • Be honest - authenticity renders - believe in your own messages
  • Repeat ... repeat ... repeat over time to keep the message alive.
Good luck !
